PRIMA is a maker studio for primitive forms. The first piece: a field of thin springy sticks that bend from your hand and spring back — the feel and sound of wheat, on your desk.
Root a few hundred of those sticks in a block and the field becomes bristles. Each one is 0.75 mm thin, 2.8 mm wide and 210 mm long — it bows across the thin axis, which is why it bows deep and snaps back. Drag it across skin and the whole field presses, releases, presses again. The springiness isn't a feature. It's the whole object.
Hundreds of fine springs walk across the head, each one bowing and letting go. Not a scratch — a wave that keeps moving.
Press your hand flat into the bristles and lift. A fidget with resistance — the field resists, then answers. For restless hands.
Run a fingernail over the ends and the field purrs — a soft, dry riffle you feel in your teeth. The ASMR is a side effect of the physics.
A dense field, mounted in a base, sized for a desk. You draw your hand across the top and every stick it meets bows away and springs home behind it — a travelling wave of thin black lines. Wheat-field ASMR, minus the field. The sticks do the same thing on a screen and in your palm; this page is a preview of the object.
Loose fields comb slow and heavy; tight fields riffle fast and bright. Same stick, different spacing, different weather.
Long sticks bow deep and return slow; short sticks are quick and sharp. Mix heights and the wave breaks in layers.
Screen-free, batteryless, no app. It only moves when you move it, then it goes still. A calm object for a loud desk.
The line is the most honest primitive — nothing to hide, all spring and grain. Bundle it, weave it, root it and pluck it. Raw black PLA, printed thin, left exactly as it comes off the plate.
Thin sticks basket-woven into springy panels and vessels — a surface that flexes as one and holds its shape by tension alone.
Stacked and bundled into raw, heavy forms. No finish, no color, no apology — the black bar as a building block.
Root one stick, pluck it: a low, dry hum. A row of them, tuned by length, is a kalimba made of air and spring.
PRIMA works the primitive forms one at a time — line, rod, plane, cube. Each one gets its own physics and its own object. The sphere is already spoken for: it belongs to our sibling studio, ORBÉ.
| Primitive | Form | Feel | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Line | Thin springy stick | Bows & snaps back | Stick in hand · riffle not built |
| Rod | Thick, rigid bar | Heavy, honest, still | Next |
| Plane | Woven panel / sheet | Flexes as one | Exploring |
| Cube | Stacked, brutalist block | Raw, blunt, solid | Exploring |
| Sphere | The ball | Rolls, builds, sings | → ORBÉ · sibling studio |
Earlier than early. The sticks exist and no field has been built yet.
No store yet — nothing to buy, nothing to pre-order. This paragraph used to say the first sticks were printing. They were not printed for this at all: a print failed, left a few hundred of them, they felt extraordinary, and the studio started there. Nothing is rooted in a block yet, and the printer is paused as of 2026-08-11. What is real is the stick. If a field of black that answers your hand sounds like something you'd keep on a desk, follow along.
First pieces in the workshopMade by hand in Dubai. Sibling studio to ORBÉ — spheres you can hold, build, and hear.
